Today, comfort, as well as patient health, has started to be prioritized in all surgeries. In these surgeries, special methods have been started to be applied in order to provide comfort for the patient. The number of surgeries performed without inserting a tampon into the nose is gradually increasing.
If the bone and cartilage curvature within the nose, i.e. deviation, is not very problematic, there may be no need to place anything (e.g. tampon) into the nose after surgery. However, since there are bad deviations that affect breathing in most of the patients who undergo surgery, the number of operations where I don’t use tampon is very small.
We can staple the wound surfaces with a rope using a special tool. Therefore, we can create the same effect with this tool without placing a tampon inside the nose. This method is of course very comfortable. We further prevent any possible bleeding and the wound heals faster. The stitches that we will conjugately put to the mucosa of the middle chamber of the nose during surgery provide the same effect.
If the curvature of the inner chamber of the nose, which is called deviation, is corrected with rhinoplasty, I prefer to use transparent silicone materials, which do not cause pain and have grooves inside that will ensure air intake. I usually leave these materials in place for 24-48 hours, however, I can extend this duration for the patients with traumatic crooked nose or weak cartilage structure, or for revision rhinoplasty operations.
